In this issue, Buddy Baker (Animal Man) is missing, and the S.T.A.R. Labs villain Buck Samson launches an attack on his family. 
 
S.T.A.R. Labs experiments: A man named Knacker Homer Gethro collects roadkill and dead farm animals for S.T.A.R. Labs, where Samson is experimenting with genetic mutations. Samson believes that Native American shamans and their animal beliefs threaten "the laws of nature".
 
The decoy: Samson tries to recruit Travis Cody to design equipment for his experiments, but Cody refuses. Samson's assistant, Kami, is instructed to put Cody in "file six," a code word for seduction.
 
A family in danger: While Buddy's wife, Ellen, travels to her mother's farm, their granddaughter Maxine remains behind. Meanwhile, genetically engineered mutants created by Samson go rogue, kill Homer Gethro, and steal his truck.
 
The reveal: As the mutants encounter a large black bear in the Frazier family's yard, Maxine hugs the bear and claims it's her father.
